One Sensor Port, Three Control Paths

Warehouse aisle lit by linear LED high bays, with sensor detection rings drawn below one fixture

Lighting controls usually get chosen twice: once to meet code, and again to fit the project’s size and budget. Those two decisions often point to different systems, which is how one fixture ends up with different part numbers on different jobs. contrⒶLS, Archipelago Lighting’s controls platform, is built to avoid that. Sensor-ready fixtures take any of three platforms through the same sensor port, so the control strategy follows the project instead of the part number.

What the Platform Covers

contrⒶLS is the controls family across Archipelago Lighting’s catalog: occupancy and daylight sensors, mesh controllers and a battery-free wall switch. It is organized into three platforms that map to ALG’s ECO, PRO and PRO+ tiers: Bi-Level, ⒶCS and SILVAIR. The two networked platforms, ⒶCS and SILVAIR, are DLC NLC Listed (V5.2); the Rebate Center shows the listing for your catalog number. Every contrⒶLS catalog number has a datasheet on the contrⒶLS page.

Three Platforms, Three Tiers

Bi-Level (ECO): Two-stage control with no network. The fixture runs at full output while the space is occupied and drops to a dimmed stand-by level when it is empty. Sensors come in PIR and microwave versions, such as the MSP-HTI/08P1/BLS and MSM-HTI/08P1/BLS, and are set with an IR remote, dials or DIP switches.

ⒶCS (PRO): ALG’s own Bluetooth mesh platform, up to 500 nodes. Commissioning runs through the ⒶCS app with a QR code, and the cloud dashboard adds reporting and rebate export. The lineup covers fixture-mount and ceiling occupancy sensors, mesh controllers and a battery-free kinetic wall switch.

SILVAIR (PRO+): Enterprise mesh for complex deployments: 500+ nodes, zones, scenes and open APIs for building management system (BMS) integration, set up in the SILVAIR app. Sensors include fixture-mount and outdoor PIR and microwave models, such as the MSP-SRO/903P3/NLC outdoor sensor.

One Port, Three Paths

On the sensor-ready /SR builds of proⒶRCH and proⒶRCH-T, one sensor port takes a Bi-Level, ⒶCS or SILVAIR fixture-mount sensor. Luxmark and Waymark take a fixture sensor in every build, and Titan is ready for all three.

One sensor port, three control paths: ECO Bi-Level standalone occupancy control, PRO ACS Bluetooth mesh control and PRO+ SILVAIR enterprise Bluetooth mesh

In practice, a distributor carries one fixture, and the sensor chosen at order time sets the control path. A single project can also mix platforms: Bi-Level in corridors, ⒶCS in open offices and SILVAIR across a campus, all on the same fixture family.

Matching Control to Code and Rebate

Energy codes ask for different things, and contrⒶLS has a path for each. Where a project calls for networked lighting controls, the ⒶCS and SILVAIR mesh paths are built for it; the ⒶCS datasheets list Title 24, Part 6 §130.1 and ASHRAE/IECC 90.1 (C405.2). Where the code calls for occupancy sensing with two-level control and no network, Bi-Level is the simple path. Requirements change with the code edition, so check the one your project is permitted under.

Rebates follow the same split. Networked lighting controls qualify for rebates in many service territories, and some programs pay for the controls on top of the fixture. Titan is DLC Premium, proⒶRCH is DLC Listed and Luxmark carries DLC QPL ID S-KCR25U; pair any of them with ⒶCS or SILVAIR and the controls can add to the incentive. Programs vary by utility, so check the Rebate Center for your ZIP code before you bid.

Choosing a Platform

  • Hardwired control, no network: Bi-Level is the simplest path. It fits corridors, stairwells and parking areas where occupancy switching is the goal.
  • Networked control with app commissioning: ⒶCS suits open offices, retail and warehouses that want grouping, scheduling and cloud reporting through the ⒶCS app.
  • Large or multi-building projects: SILVAIR is built for complex deployments, including BMS integration across a campus.

An Ecosystem Across the Catalog

The same three paths show up product by product. Waymark and Luxmark list Bi-Level, ⒶCS and SILVAIR sensors among their accessories, next to constⒶNT /EM08 emergency builds. The Astra downlight lists an ⒶCS occupancy sensor (20 ft or 40 ft), the kinetic wall switch and an ⒶCS controller, each its own line item.

Answers for the job

Frequently Asked Questions

What is contrⒶLS?

contrⒶLS is Archipelago Lighting's lighting controls platform: Bi-Level standalone sensors, ⒶCS Bluetooth mesh and SILVAIR enterprise mesh. ⒶCS and SILVAIR are DLC NLC Listed (V5.2); check the Rebate Center for the listing on your catalog number.

What are the three contrⒶLS platforms?

Bi-Level (ECO tier), ⒶCS (PRO tier) and SILVAIR (PRO+ tier). Each one plugs into the same sensor port on a sensor-ready fixture.

What is the /SR sensor port?

The sensor port on the sensor-ready /SR builds of fixtures such as proⒶRCH and proⒶRCH-T. It takes a Bi-Level, ⒶCS or SILVAIR fixture-mount sensor. Luxmark and Waymark take a fixture sensor in every build.

Which platform fits Title 24 networked lighting control requirements?

The ⒶCS and SILVAIR mesh paths, both DLC NLC Listed. The ⒶCS datasheets list Title 24, Part 6 §130.1 and ASHRAE/IECC 90.1 (C405.2).

Which platform fits ASHRAE 90.1 occupancy and bi-level requirements?

Bi-Level is the simplest path when the code calls for occupancy sensing with two-level control and no network. For networked projects, the ⒶCS datasheets list ASHRAE/IECC 90.1 (C405.2). Check the code edition your project is permitted under.

Can one project use more than one platform?

Yes. A project can run Bi-Level in corridors, ⒶCS in open offices and SILVAIR across a campus, all on the same fixture family.

Do I need a different fixture for each controls platform?

No. On a sensor-ready fixture, the sensor you order sets the platform, so the same fixture serves any of the three paths.
